BLKOUT

I ran across BLKOUT online and was immediately drawn in by the minis. Enemy Spotted Studios really nailed the fusion of ultramodern and science-fiction in their near future design. With very limited hobby time due to work and parenting, the quick games BLKOUT offers seems like a perfect fit for my current hobby desires. I was able to get a couple of games in with unpainted models and enjoyed it, although I need to spend some more time with the rules.

I decided to jump into the game with the UN vs Task Force Boone 2 player starter. I really dig the Peacemaker drone so I decided to paint the UN half of the box first, although I primed and zenithaled the full box.

Zenithal all the things

I decided to focus on getting the minis battle ready rather than trying to push my painting level. Perfect is the enemy of good is becoming a life motto. The plan was zenithal -> contrast paint -> shade -> highlight.

Base coated

After learning about Marine Juice from Sonic Sledgehammer I mixed a batch and used it to emphasize my shadows. A few quick highlights with some Monument paints and I was content with the results.

Quick Layering

Next onto the bases. I wanted to go with a Martian theme and this was a great excuse to play with pigments. I have really enjoyed learning how to use them and they give great results with minimal time invested. My recipe for the bases was Vallejo Brown Earth → Scale75 Mars Orange → Game Ready Mars Earth → Huge Miniatures Mars Dust Weathering Powder. I am thrilled with the outcome.

Reserve Fireteam Troopers
Pointmen
Peacemaker Drone
UN 3rd Battalion ready to deploy

The lenses are fluorescent orange with a gloss varnish which was too much for my camera to handle unfortunately. That is a problem for another day.

Next step is getting some handlers painted up and finishing up a table for them. Then time to find some opponents and get some reps in.
